A Grand Poem

stain glass window by my little sister.
This is a poem I really enjoyed.

I asked for strength that i might achieve
I was made weak that I might learn humility to obey
I asked for heath that I might do greater things.
I was given infirmity that I might do better things
I asked for riches that I might be wise
I asked for power that I might feel the need of  God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy all things
O got nothing  that I asked for ,
But everything that I hoped for
Almost despite myself my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am , among all people, most richly blessed.

If you know auhor let me know!

Teaching 6 year olds

Teaching American history ii very important, since that is the country  God has given me to live in. I still enjoy learning out other nations but if living in a country, learn about it. How does one enlighten a 6 year old?

Many articles are geared toward older children so I decide to write one for younger kids.  It made me think on me how a young child at any age can understand so much and I felt it was a shame  when my little sister could  not name the first president   Instead of mocking her , I announced we would  take an exciting  journey into the time of  George Washington.

How deep should   one go with  such a young aged learner.   Even if  you, the teacher get interested  one must be careful that , you do not feel obliged to read every word in a book.  Prepare ahead of time by reading some books such as the ones pictured above.

The night before  (each night of the week when you will be doing school), look over the books  or chapters  you will be reading out loud.  Then choose portions  which will grab their attention.  The  attention span depends on each child.

I would say about an hour a day of history is good then add a craft, or recipe to make it hands on because that is what makes learning come alive!

Please visit my book blog for more info on books to read! http://wise-like-solomon.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-american-dream.html

Till next week!! Valerie

Home made Mayonnaise; fast and easy

Eating healthy is a mandatory thing! We try not to consume,  unhealthy foods such as canola oil. Mayonnaise is one of the great basic sauces, and the base for many salad dressings. Homemade mayo is easy and so good! The whey will help your product last longer. I use a combinations of oils so as to make the  product, less strong!

  • 1 whole egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 Tablespoon whey (optional)
  • 3/4 – 1 cup extra virgin olive oil, expeller-pressed sunflower oil, coconut oil, or a combination
  • generous pinch of salt
This recipe is easiest when using a blender To make the mayo this way, put all ingredients in the blender cup and mix for about 30 seconds until the mayonnaise is fluffy. There is no need to dribble the oil in drop by drop when using this method.
If you add whey let sit at room temperature, covered for 7 hours! Then refrigerate it and it will keep several months getting firmer. With out why it keeps only 2 weeks.
This is o easy to make it!  See the difference!! How many make this?

New notes on loving your brothers! Tips from the Botkin Girls

I had a very busy week We were at the home school conic conference  last week. what a great time we all had!
My brother at the conference

I was inspired in my walk of faith and given a lot of ideas to think about. The Botkin girls along with their father have always helped me so much. I enjoyed their talk on interacting with your brother!

We need good relationships with our brothers, girls~We forget we are learning from them, as most of the time our attitude seems to say " they need to grow up." Yes, maybe they do need to but what are we doing to help them?

It is up to us to do better so that we will be a good example to them of the kind of wife they should look for some day,

They demand respect and we should give it to them.  That is the only way they will ever become men. If we treat them with no trust or respect, how will they ever achieve it?

The one lesson which struck me , was that I am not a good sister unless I listen to my brother but more then that allow them to teach me things. God has given them much wisdom  even if they are younger. I must humble my self and learn so as to help them grow!

I leave you with this challenge  What are you going to change in your life, so as to honor and respect your brother.

Valerie!

A Hymn I liked!

Think truly, and thy thoughts Shall the world’s famine feed.
Speak truly, and each word of thine Shall be a fruitful seed.

Live truly, and thy life shall be A great and noble creed.
hfh
Give we the glory and praise to the Lamb;
Take we the robe and the harp and the palm;
Sing we the song of the Lamb that was slain,
Dying in weakness but rising to reign.

I heard the voice of Jesus say, “I am this dark world’s Light;
Look unto Me, thy morn shall rise, And all thy day be bright.”
I looked to Jesus, and I found In Him my Star, My Sun;
And in that light of life I’ll walk, Till trav’ling days are done.

I was a wand’ring sheep, I would not be controlled;
But now I love my Shepherd’s voice, I love, I love the fold.
I was a wayward child, I once preferred to roam;
But now I love my Father’s voice, I love, I love His home.

I praise the God of grace; I trust His truth and might;
He calls me His, I call Him mine, My God, my joy, my light.
‘Tis He who saveth me, And freely pardon gives;
I love because He loveth me, I live because He lives.

I long to be like Jesus, Meek, loving, lowly, mild;
I long to be like Jesus, The Father’s holy Child;
I long to be with Jesus Amid the heav’nly throng,
To sing with saints His praises, To learn the angels’ song.

Fill Thou my life, O Lord my God, In ev’ry part with praise,
That my whole being may proclaim Thy being and thy ways.
Not for the lip of praise alone, Nor e’en the praising heart,
I ask, but for a life made up Of praise in ev’ry part.

O Master, point Thou out the way, Nor suffer Thou our steps to stray;
Then in the path that leads today We follow Thee.

When the worldling, sick at heart, Lifts his soul above;
When the prodigal looks back To his Father’s love;
When the proud man, in his pride, Stoops to seek Thy face;
When the burdened brings his guilt To Thy Throne of grace:
Hear then in love, O Lord, the cry
In heav’n, Thy dwelling place on high.

Thy way, not mine, O Lord, However dark it be!
Lead me by Thine own hand, Choose out the path for me;
Smooth let it be or rough, It will be still the best;
Winding or straight, it leads Right onward to Thy rest.
The kingdom that I seek Is Thine; so let the way
That leads to it be Thine, Else I must surely stray.
19

I dare not choose my lot; I would not if I might;
Choose Thou for me, my God, So shall I walk aright.
Take Thou my cup, and it With joy or sorrow fill
As best to Thee may seem; Choose Thou my good and ill.
Not mine, not mine the choice In things or great or small;
Be thou my Guide, my Strength, My Wisdom, and my All.
